It was in June 1997, following a number of impromptu performances at local events, that a group of men from Knowle Parish Church choir decided to form the St John Singers. Over the next 5 years the 12 strong male voice choir, under the directorship of Rose Watts, successfully performed at many charity fund-raising events in the Solihull area.
After around 5 years, Derek Sheldon, former Choir Master and Director of Music at Knowle Parish Church, became the new Musical Director of the choir. It was decided at this time to re-name the choir, and so Knowle Male Voice Choir was born.
Following our own Annual Concert in July 2013, Derek and our Accompanist Jenny both retired. We were pleased to welcome Jacob Fifer as our new Musical Director and Jean Lowe as our accompanist.
Today members number around 29.
Over the past 15 years the choir has helped to raise thousands of pounds for local and national charities and welcomes approaches by local charities who would like the choir to be a part of their fund-raising. We are also keen to sing at Weddings.
+ + + NEW CHOIR MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME + + +
You don’t have to be able to read music, so why not come along and try!? You’ll get help from fellow choir members as you sing along and there are also guide tracks you can listen to.
Practices would normally take place at 7.30pm every Wednesday during school terms at Dorridge Methodist Church, Mill Lane, Dorridge, followed by a refreshing trip to the local pub immediately afterwards. Regrettably because of Covid restrictions neither of these activities can happen, however we are still ‘meeting’ on Zoom every week.
